Chemical Peels

Chemical peels remove the outer layer of the skin using chemical solutions, like glycolic acid and phenol. Although most commonly performed on the face, this non-surgical procedure may be done on the neck and hands as well. Chemical peels can treat the following:

  • Age spots
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Freckles
  • Rough skin
  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Acne

Before the procedure, a skin evaluation is done to determine which type of peel will produce the best results. Dark skin tends to respond well to light peels, while severely sun-damaged skin will likely benefit from a moderate or deep peel. Pre-treatment creams and sunscreen need to be applied every day for several weeks prior to the procedure. Doing this may help shorten the healing process.

During the peel, the area to be treated is cleaned thoroughly, and the chemical solution is applied on the skin for several minutes, which produces a stinging sensation. A neutralizing agent is then used, and the stinging sensation gradually goes away. For more intense peels, a cool compress may be placed on the area to relieve any stinging or burning, or the solution may be applied in intervals to limit exposure to the strong chemicals.

Following a light peel, there will be redness and swelling, which typically fade in a few days. Swelling after a moderate or deep peel may last for a week, and mild redness may continue for a few weeks. To help improve the final results of a peel, treated areas must be kept cool, moisturized, and protected from sunlight.

Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion, also known as dermaplaning, uses a high-speed rotating device to scrape away outer layers of the skin and create a smoother surface. This surgical procedure is most commonly used on the face, but it may be performed on other parts of the body as well. It treats the following skin issues:

  • Raised scars due to accidents, previous surgery, or acne.
  • Deep wrinkles.
  • Skin growths, like precancerous lesions.

During dermabrasion, a nurse or other healthcare professional holds the skin taut so that the doctor can apply gentle but constant pressure on the skin using the device. Depending on how much skin needs treatment, it may take a few minutes to over an hour to complete the surgery.

A waxy or moist dressing is placed on the skin at the end of the procedure. The treated area will be red and swollen for about two to three weeks. Itchiness and tingling will likely be present for some time. Although less common, enlarged pores, cold sores, rashes, and permanent skin discoloration may also occur. Normal activities may be resumed about two weeks following dermabrasion. However, swimming in chlorinated water and sports that involve the use of balls should be avoided for four to six weeks.

Nasal Endoscopy

Nasal endoscopy is the use of a thin, flexible tube (called a 'scope') that is inserted into the nostril to examine the structures of the nose. The scope contains a fiber optic light and a camera that allow a physician to see much more of the nasal passages, airways, and sinuses than is possible with a standard nasal exam.

A nasal endoscopy is typically performed by an otolaryngologist (or ENT) in their office. It may be performed for a variety of reasons, but some common ones include:

  • Sinus infections
  • Nasal polyps
  • Frequent nosebleeds
  • Persistent stuffiness
  • Obstruction in the nose
  • Suspected tumor in the nasal passages

In most cases, a medication containing a decongestant and anesthetic is sprayed into the nose before the scope is inserted. The doctor uses the scope to examine any problem areas. If necessary, most scopes allow for tiny tools to be inserted and used to removed tissue or take samples. Nasal endoscopy is a very safe and relatively easy procedure.

My appointment with Dr. Lamperti was for an in-office surgical procedure, as he had explained n an earlier apppointment to explain test results and corrective action recommended. That procedure was professional and quickly accomplished in this appointment. Dr. Lamperti carefully explained the steps in the process before beginning, what to expect during the subsequent recovery period, and daily testaments during that time. In addition to ordering a prescription for me to pick conveniently pick up, he provided a comprehensive information handout of daily treatments until the scheduled followup appointment with him. The entire process was completed exactly as he had explained and performed. Entirely outstanding professional experience.

This Dr seems to know his business but is very impersonal- when I expressed my concern that the last surgery I was not happy with the outcome of the way the eye had been pulled down. And asked If this time It could not be brought down. The pull on the bottom continues to feel that It has again been pulled. I am sure he will matter of fact will tell me he did what he could. He does not have much eye contact when talking to me. I hope I do not have to deal with him again after the stitches are out. The receptionist as always was Incredible super niceSorry for expressing harsh words. If I need more I am hopping I will be referred to another DR

This was my first time at PacMed and my visit with an Ear Doctor with PacMed. Dr. Thomas Lamperti was Great and after speaking with him about my Ear problem. Dr. Lamperi knew exactly what I was talking about. I like the fact; he took this device and stuck it into my ear. And the device sucked out all the fluid down in my ear canal. I've been wanting to say thank you for the automatic sliding doors installed at Canyon Park. As a person with limited mobility they are amazing, especially when the previous push buttons didnt work and when you'd push them people from the other side of the door wouldn't see you and would all rush to use the door you had to wait to open instead of manually opening their own door. Regarding Dr Lamperti, he is fantastic and very efficient!

The provider was nice and respectful however, he did not explain to me about my condition other than I can refer you to a speech therapist. Nothing as to what causes the condition if the condition can be cured none of that was explained. The procedure that he did, he did explain and I appreciate that as we went through it but right now I don't know anything about my condition. I would like that addressed we'll see what you do with that

The provider spoke to fast for me to take everything in. With adhd and being older and congested, I missed a few things. I was too embarrassed to ask him to slow down. I was hoping that the provider would have included a brief summary of the state of my left sinus cavity, septum, etc. Because I forget some of what he said. He was very nice and I could tell he had read my chart. I understood my treatment plan.

When 4 previous physicians refused or were unable to help me with my condition, Dr. Lamperti was very positive that he could help me. He also thought it was a routine procedure when other physicians thought it would be dangerous or permanently disfiguring. After living with a large cyst in the middle of my cheek for 25 years, it was amazing to find a physician who was willing and able to remove it for me.

My care provider saw me ahead of another patient because what I needed was going to be fast treatment. This gave me a feeling of importance and showed great service. The check-in employees were busy on their computers but one saw me waiting for maybe 5 seconds and helped me. Very impressive. In the patient room, my wait time was very short and I was out faster than I expected.
