“Paige Allen, LISW-S Psychotherapist Compassionate, Experienced Support for Meaningful Change I’m Paige, a social worker and psychotherapist with more than 40 years of experience supporting people through some of life’s most challenging moments. I bring a compassionate, grounded approach to therapy, meeting each person with kindness, curiosity, and respect for their unique experiences, values, and goals. Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals navigating depression, anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, trauma, self-esteem concerns, and life transitions. My goal is to create a safe, welcoming, and nonjudgmental space where you can talk openly, better understand your experiences, and work toward meaningful change at your own pace. Trauma-Informed Therapy & EMDR I have expertise in helping people who have experienced trauma or difficult life events. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is one of the evidence-based approaches I offer. EMDR can help people process distressing experiences and reduce the emotional impact that past events may continue to have on their lives. My Philosophy Therapy is not about changing who you are. It is about understanding what you have experienced, recognizing the strengths you already possess, and developing tools and perspectives that can help you move forward. A Collaborative Approach I believe effective therapy begins with a genuine relationship built on trust, respect, and collaboration. I listen with curiosity rather than judgment and work with you to understand what is happening in your life and what you want to change. Depending on your needs and goals, therapy may focus on: * Depression and anxiety * Stress and feeling overwhelmed * Trauma and difficult life experiences * Relationship challenges * Self-esteem and confidence * Life transitions and major changes * Coping with difficult emotions * Personal growth and building a more fulfilling life I draw from evidence-based therapeutic approaches and tailor our work to you rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all model. Extensive Experience Beyond the Therapy Room In addition to my clinical experience, I have spent many years in social-services leadership and management. This experience gives me a unique understanding of the pressures and challenges that can come with demanding professional roles. I understand the realities of managing teams, being on-call, training and developing employees, hiring, building a positive workplace culture, navigating difficult personnel situations, and implementing corrective action plans. I also understand how the responsibilities of leadership can affect a person's stress level, relationships, confidence, and overall well-being. This perspective can be especially valuable for professionals and leaders who are trying to balance responsibility at work with the need to care for themselves. A Space to Be Yourself Whether you are working through past experiences, managing challenges in the present, or trying to build a more fulfilling future, therapy can provide a place to pause, reflect, and move forward with greater clarity. I believe you deserve to be heard, respected, and understood. I am honored to walk alongside you as you work toward healing, growth, and meaningful change. You don't have to have everything figured out before beginning therapy. We can start where you are.”

Depression
Everyone knows what it feels like to get the blues once in a while. But depression is a serious illness that is more severe than a bad day and lasts much longer. Symptoms of depression stop a person from being able to function and enjoy daily activities for weeks or months at a time. It can happen to anyone, and it isn't something that people can control by force of will or "snap out of it."
Some common symptoms of depression include:
We don't yet know what causes depression, but it's thought that it is a combination of genetic, biological, environmental, and social influences. Because of this, the most effective treatments for depression combine medication with psychotherapy. Therapy, especially cognitive-behavioral therapy, can be extremely helpful in resolving the negative thoughts and feelings that come with depression. It gives patients new tools that they can use themselves to cope when their depression is making them feel down.
Some of the common medications used to treat depression include antidepressants such as SSRI's (Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft) or atypical antidepressants (Cymbalta, Wellbutrin). It's important to remember that these medications have different effects on everybody, and no one medication works right for everyone. Patients may have to try a couple before finding the one that works just right for them. If the first medication they try doesn't work, they should talk to their doctor about trying something else. In extreme cases where medication is not enough, electro-convulsive therapy and hospitalization may be the answer to keeping a severely depressed person safe.
Depression is a difficult illness to deal with, but it is more common than believed and there are many people who can help. With the right treatment, individuals with depression can get back to fully enjoying life again.
Self-Esteem Issues
Self-esteem is the value one assigns to oneself based on a complex combination of factors such as confidence, identity, sense of belonging, and self-image, among others. Self-esteem plays a critical role in determining one's happiness and overall well-being. Those with a very positive self-perception are considered to have "high" self-esteem, whereas those with negative self-perception have "low" self-esteem. Self-esteem does not dictate one's true intelligence, skills, looks, or accomplishments, although it can undermine one's motivation and opportunities. Successful people can have low self-esteem, and in some cases, that low self-esteem might motivate people to work harder at establishing themselves. Self-esteem is also not a binary scale, but a broad spectrum that people may move up or down throughout the course of their lives.
Humans begin to gain self-esteem in childhood from being cared for by adults and reaching natural milestones such as learning how to tie one's shoes. Self-esteem evolves through adolescence and adulthood, and can change drastically based on one's positive and negative experiences. It's important to develop healthy self-esteem to navigate through challenges, make decisions, and gain motivation to pursue interests.
Self-esteem issues can influence one's emotions, behavior, relationships, and world view. Self-esteem issues frequently arise from low self-esteem. Low self-esteem can be caused by factors such as trauma, caregiver neglect, abuse, bullying, and academic, social, or professional difficulties. Stressful life events such as parental divorce, caregiver conflict, and financial problems may also contribute to low self-esteem. In recent years, researchers have highlighted the influence of social media in negatively impacting adolescents' mental health. Common signs of low self-esteem include:
Excessive self-esteem can also be problematic in that it can hinder one's ability to form relationships with others. People with extremely high self-esteem may appear to be conceited or entitled. Some researchers suggest very high self-esteem can lead people to engage in more risk-taking behaviors. Causes of excessive self-esteem are less well-known, but may include upbringing, personality, and cognitive biases.
Fortunately, self-esteem issues can be readily addressed at any time. Positive self-affirmations recognizing one's own accomplishments can raise low self-esteem. Accepting one's own weaknesses and imperfections can benefit those with both low and high self-esteem. People with self-esteem issues often find therapy is an effective means to improve their self-esteem and mental health. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can help people with self-esteem issues identify and change destructive patterns of thought. Support groups, family counseling, and antidepressant medication may also help with self-esteem issues.
Maintaining a positive outlook and belief in oneself can go a long way towards forming healthy self-esteem. Developing a strong sense of self can be important for well-being and contributes to overall happiness and success in life.
