Robotic Surgery

Robotic surgery is a type of minimally invasive surgery, using a tiny opening to get inside the body instead of making a large cut. It uses small tools attached to a thin robotic arm, which is controlled by the surgeon. Robotic surgery may be referred to by the specific kind of robot that is used. The most advanced robot currently in use is called the da Vinci, and surgery using it is sometimes called da Vinci surgery.

There are many benefits to robotic surgery, both for the patient and the surgeon. Robotic surgery allows for more precise movements and increased control during very delicate surgical procedures. This makes performing surgery accurately much easier for surgeons and reduces fatigue. The smaller 'hand' of the robot can enter the body via a much smaller opening, which reduces the risk of infection and scarring and leads to a faster recovery. The robotic hands also contain tiny moveable cameras among their tools, giving surgeons a much closer view of the procedure than would be possible with traditional surgery.

Just had my first visit with Dr. Brown and I found him to be very personable, soft spoken and easy to talk to, which made me relax. He explained everything in detail and he was very gentle doing my exam. He is not my regular Dr. but would absolutely go to him again and recommend him.

While there are several providers from this practice that are wonderful, Dr. Brown is a nightmare to have as an OB and as the doctor to deliver my child. He lacks any emotion, understanding or manners. I began bleeding when I was in my first trimester, which caused some panic. After he was very late for the appointment, he barely checked me out and told me it was normal to stop worrying and that I would be fine. Made me feel absolutely terrible. In my third trimester, one of my ankles and leg began swelling, a symptom I was told to watch out for. I called, just as I was told to do and of course Dr. Brown was the provider on for that day. Again, he made me feel dumb. He measured where the swelling was and told me the swelling wasn't high enough in my leg for concern.

I eventually had to be induced, and to my disappointment, he was the provider on for the weekend. I was told I was the only person being induced that night. The doctors generally can go home, stay local while they are on for the weekend, unless they have anyone in active labor or being induced.. and I was told he was "pi**ed" that he had to stay at the hospital because of me. Awesome. While I didn't have a birth plan, I knew I wanted to try to get through labor without an epidural. He would come to check on me, barging into the room and being very rude to my husband and I. He refused to check if I was dilated and kept telling me I was not making any progress because I was "too happy looking" and "laughing too much." I told him I have a very high pain tolerance and I cope by laughing and trying to make light of a situation, rather than dwelling in pain. I finally convinced my nurse to check me, which I was to 6cm and he came running to break my water. Did not apologize for not believing me. I had several nurses who all made comments that he is difficult to work with and has terrible bedside manner. When it finally came time for me to push, he refused to let me push in any other position than on my back. Fast forward a few hours later, he botched the circumcision on my son. Our pediatrician had asked us which doctor performed the circumcision and laughed once I told him Dr. Brown had done it. He said he wasn't surprised, he had seen many boys with botched circumcisions from him, a very common issue with Dr. Brown.

I wish I could give Dr. Brown 0 stars.
The OBGYN practice as a whole is pretty good. I do wish that they would not make you rotate through the entire OB care team and you had a choice of who delivers your baby.
