Biography

Hope S Rugo, MD, F.A.S.C.O., is a medical oncologist at City of Hope Duarte in the Los Angeles-area, is division chief of breast medical oncology and a professor of medical oncology and therapeutics research. She also serves as director of the Women's Cancers Program for City of Hope's national network of cancer centers. A world-renowned expert in breast cancer and clinical trial design and execution, Dr Rugo oversees all women's cancer research initiatives and clinical care at City of Hope. She is deeply committed to improving access to innovative new therapies for breast cancer treatment everywhere and takes a compassionate, collaborative approach in her work.

Dr Hope S Rugo is a medical hematologist-oncologist who cares for patients with breast cancer. She has been part of UCSF for several decades. Before joining the breast care team in 1999, she cared for patients with blood cancers and those needing bone marrow transplantation. Drawing on her understanding of cancer biology, she entered the field of breast cancer with the goal of incorporating novel therapies into current treatments and improving the quality of care. Rugo directs UCSF's clinical trials program in breast oncology. In her own research, she is interested in developing immunotherapies and targeted therapies to overcome treatment resistance in breast cancer.
