"My wife (34f - white) went to Dr Curran for testing as he is the only one testing for Autism at Lifestance Health ( a medical company/organization near us). It's a 3-step process: (1) initial meeting to gather history and get to know the patient, (2) testing day and (3) meeting to go over the results and get a diagnosis. From the very beginning he was dismissive, cutting her off after each question before she had a chance to explain or go in to any depth at all. No questions were asked about her childhood and most questions were leading - meaning she got the impression that he had already decided that she had some mood disorder and his questions were all searching for those symptoms. Testing day was fine, but he is not a part of testing. There are specific, systemic errors that come into play with respect to identifying autism in adult women who have been able to hide it from themselves and others their whole life - so I won't blame him for those issues. That said, my wife had the feeling that nothing good was going to come from the final meeting and diagnosis. On the day of the diagnosis there were many glaring issues, here are just a few: (1) He put the report on the screen, and read it to her. Yep, there was no conversation, no dialogue, and about 5 mins to ask questions at the end for which he still interrupted her making blanket statements about "the kind of person you are". Now, my wife can read (obviously), better and faster than most. So, why did Dr Curran think this was even remotely an acceptable way to handle a diagnosis meeting? What was required was a conversation, one he wasn't willing to have. He did not "show his work"! (2) His diagnosis was not based on the testing results. We got a second and third opinion and neither the PSYD she has been working with nor her Therapist saw anywhere in the testing results where he could have gotten the basis for the (frankly idiotic) diagnoses he gave her. Reading through the results, his logic was not even internally consistent. She got diagnosed with one thing based on small evidence, but not something else based on a higher level of evidence. (3) With a history of addiction, he should NEVER have encouraged her to take the kind of medications that he was suggesting - and he supposedly has a Master of Addiction Counseling! We were both shocked. And these are for diagnoses that don't even show up in testing results according to other experts. Dr Curran brings no value, or possibly a negative value to the testing process. I don't know whether it's incompetence, dismissiveness of his patients, misogyny, lack of effort or some combination. Either way it's unacceptable. Maybe he was having a bad week, not that something silly like that should have an impact on a professional's work. But I wouldn't risk working with him if it is AT ALL an option; especially if you are a woman/identify female and are going to him for his "autism expertise", have an Alternative look about you or an alternative lifestyle. "A North Carolina woman is accused of posing as a doctor, providing services to patients and defrauding an insurance company out of millions of dollars. Kris Williams-Falcon faces federal charges in the case. In April, federal agents seized two Charlotte homes, saying Williams-Falcon bought them using money from her insurance fraud scheme. One is in a neighborhood on Coves Edge Lane, which she bought in May 2022, and the second is in a neighborhood on Wild Nursery Court, which she bought in October 2022. The FBI said Williams-Falcon was a certified alcohol and drug counselor until April 2021, which was when the state board revoked her license. After that point, the FBI said she submitted fake insurance claims for services she either wasn’t authorized to do or didn’t do at all. Investigators said the insurance company paid her more than $4.5 million."

"The first time towards the end of our session she raised her voice, very inappropriately at her office support (front desk) it made me feel so uncomfortable. Last 3 minutes of the session she turned concerned and suggested meds - not opposed to them but did not feel she had a good enough eval from me. I went twice and both times I was late being taken back. The second visit the berated me about my mask not being pulled up, I had my mask on however there was a clear mouth piece for deaf and hard of hearing people where I work. It was the way she went about it - verbally aggressive. Now this might be a medical condition or something but she just stares and blinks aimlessly - totally cold and disconnected."

"I was scheduled for a 15-minute consultation that lasted about 5 minutes. To add insult to injury my potential therapist arrived late to our consultation. The consultation was free and conducted via Zoom. After waiting 7 minutes, I decided to call the provider via telephone. I was sent to voicemail and left a brief message when prompted. The provider immediately returned my call and stated that he was logging into Zoom. I will note that an apology was given, but it did not come across as a genuine, sincere apology. He did not know whether my last name was my first name or vice versa. I filled out an email questionnaire online which distinguised my first name from my last name. This indicated to me that he was not interested in me as a potential client. This was extremely disheartening because it took a long time to muster up the courage to intially reach out to a therapist. After we distinguished my first name from my last name, he immediately asked about my method of payment (insurance, self pay). I explained that I had coverage through Aetna CVS. He stated that he has not worked with this particular insurance company in a while and that he would be willing to refer me to a colleague. I understand that I may not have the best insurance coverage, but he was listed as an in-network provider. He did not take the time to investigate whether or not he accepted my insurance and he did not hesitate to pawn me off to a colleague. The actions that were displayed by this provider showed me that since I have a low cost insurance I was not worth his time. He immediately ended our consultation. This provider appeared to be aloof, short and unempathetic. While I am not disgusted and displayed with the level of care and professionalism displayed by Mr. Lob, I will not give up on my search for the right therapist.
